Saturday, July 05, 2003 ( 6:06 PM ) MB We are doing The International Photographic Scavenger Hunt as a family project. I got a one-use camera for each of us and printed out lists of the themes. At the end of the month we'll scan the pictures and create a Web page for each person's photos. We will also pick one picture for each theme from all of our photos and create a sixth page of those. That's the page URL we will submit to 26 Things site. Permalink Thursday, July 03, 2003 ( 1:47 AM ) MB As I've mentioned before, I have three children ( ages 7, 10, and 14). Children argue. "He got more than me." "She always gets what she wants." Each compares what he/she has with what the other two have. I'm unfair and life's unfair. So two lessons I keep trying to teach them are that if someone else has something good, that doesn't make the good thing you have worth less and someone else doesn't always have to lose for you to win. I think of these two lessons when I read about the debate on legalizing gay marriages. Allowing a gay couple to marry does not make any other marriage less legitimate. Their good thing doesn't make your good thing worth less. Nor does banning gay marriages make heterosexual marriages better. Someone doesn't have to lose for you to win, that's up to you. Permalink Wednesday, July 02, 2003 ( 2:31 PM ) MB From an email: OUT TO DINNER MATHEMATICS Work this out as you read. Don't cheat and read the bottom until you've worked through it! 1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have dinner out. (try for more than once but less than 10) 2. Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be bold) 3. Add 5. (for Sunday) 4. Multiply it by 50 - I'll wait while you get the calculator................ 5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1753.... If you haven't, add 1752.......... 6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born. You should have a three digit number The first digit of this was your original number (I.e., how many times you want to have eat out each week.) The next two numbers are... YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it IS!!!!!) THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2003) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS. IMPRESSIVE, ISN'T IT? Permalink Monday, June 30, 2003 ( 2:47 PM ) MB Karma Banque describes itself as: Karma Banque (KbQ) is at the center of a new activist movement which combines the civil disobedience of Gandhi with the financial savvy of George Soros to help change the economic and political landscape of the world! Whom do they target? From the FAQ: ...as a general guiding principle we can narrow the focus to companies who’s short-term profit motives are achieved at the long-term expense of the world community. From their front page: OUR MISSION: to encourage activists and hedge funds to work together and depress sales of U.S., U.K., and Israeli companies. "The real terrorism today is the terrorism of consumer companies. Groups like al-Qa'ida are merely symptoms of the toxicity of Microsoft's DRM initiative, Exxon's price fixing, and Coke's miserable human rights track record." -- maxbroker I'm sure it's just an amazing coincidence that the only companies that deserve to be attacked by them are in the U.S., U.K., or Israel. Time for a nice cold glass of Coke. Permalink Sunday, June 29, 2003 ( 11:52 PM ) MB I decided that I've been spending too much time playing BlogShares. Actually, I felt a bit guilty. I'm spending so much time reading blogs and I haven't been adding any sites to JoeAnt. So I added a bunch of blogs in which I've bought shares. I've bought shares in many that are new to me and some that I've been reading for a while (some of them are ones I should have added a long time ago, just never got around to it until tonight.) It's going to make picking the featured Blog of the Month just that much more difficult. The listings will show up under the Weblogs topic or one of its subtopics after the next database update (Wednesday). Permalink |
