Random Thoughts From a Confused Mind | ||||

Wednesday, April 02, 2003 ( 11:20 AM ) MB I've been helping my son research information online for a school project. The one thing I have learned from this is that the most poorly designed sites, the hardest to navigate, the ones most likely to have broken links are government sites...at least in Kentucky. There are some exceptions. A few are very nice and informative. I think the others just want to mirror the real world of Kentucky beaurocracy and make simple things as difficult as possible. Speaking of beaurocracy and stupidity, I went to renew our car license plates the other day. I really don't like the new one they have. So I asked about getting a specialty plate. You pay a bit more but you can have one for U of L, one showing the state bird, one advocating spaying and neutering pets, and others. I couldn't get one because you have to turn in your old plates to do so. I didn't have my old one with me, it was still on my van and I wasn't going to leave to stand in line again just to get it. I didn't have to turn in my old one to get the regular plate though. I asked more about this and found out that I could, after getting the new ones, go back in line, turn them in and pay just the extra for the specialty plate and get one then. This makes no sense to me. Seems like a waste of two perfectly good (if tacky) license plates and a lot of extra paperwork. I would have been tempted to get back in line but it was the last day of the month and I had already been there for over an hour. Permalink |
