Saturday, August 31, 2002 ( 10:54 PM ) MB Mom's Kitchen is site of the week at Neighborhood Values. How cool is that? Thanks y'all. Permalink ( 9:04 PM ) MB I tried out the Google Glossary which says you can "Find definitions for words, phrases and acronyms". The first term I looked up was HOMES, which is an acronym for the names of the Great Lakes. The results I got didn't show that one...guess they don't do many crossword puzzles...or they don't need mnemonics as much as I do to remember things. Find more helpful mnemonics here. One of the ones I liked best on this site was: King Phillip came over for good sex. (Kingdom, phylum, class, order, genus, species.) The last three are for bread machines. Earlier today we went to the library and then out to Cave Hill Cemetery. We took along some bread to feed the ducks, geese, and swans there. It is a beautiful place and usually we walk around a bit to look at the plants and some of the older monuments but I was feeling too lazy for that today. It's also a great place to go when the kids need to collect leaves for a school project. There are more than 500 varieties of trees and shrubs there, many of which are identified with markers. Tree brochures are available for purchase from the administration office. Not only were there very few results that had anything to do with this team, one search engine, Ah-ha, returned only one site and it was, " Buy 100% Legal Steroids Here! Steroids Build Muscle Mass Fast. Increase Your Size, Power, and Performance. Buy Legal D-Bol, Winni-V, Anodrol, Deca, Test and More. Fast and Discreet Delivery. Click Here to Order Now." It's no wonder that people get frustrated when they search for information online when they are getting these kinds of results. Sites that do have stories on the team and the games include: Little League.org Several links to news stories from WHAS 11 TV. Site will require you to register to continue reading after viewing a few of the articles. Items from WAVE 3 TV. Includes a couple of streaming videos And more from WLKY 32. This one also offers video links from the pages with the articles. Permalink ( 8:09 AM ) MB Time Waster - Play Fly the Copter. It's a Flash game where you control a helicopter using only your left mouse button. Just a word of warning, don't fly with me...I kept crashing. Permalink ( 2:31 AM ) MB Pong Permalink ( 2:20 AM ) MB I've given up hoping that people will learn to spell potato. I had thought for a time that after Dan Quayle and the "potatoe" thing that a few more people would learn the correct spelling. Not only do I still see signs in produce sections with "potatoe" but a few weeks ago when I went to the grocery I saw a sign for "Idahoe potatoes". No wonder "e" is the most commonly used letter in English.... British Lawnmower Museum Vintage Slot Machines Mountain Dew Memorabilia Maybe I should create a virtual museum for my matchbook collection. I haven't added much to it in years though...places just don't give away free matchbooks like they used to. I've been getting more visits from people who are using the related site feature on their Alexa toolbar. It's interesting to see what sites are showing mine as a related link. One of them that I've gotten some visits through is Epicurious.com. Permalink ( 10:27 PM ) MB In Jefferson County, KY, the school board has voted to reduce the amount of soft drinks and junk food available to students in the schools. According to this article in the Courier-Journal, "The limits were sparked by concern over reports of growing youth obesity, and supporters of the rules said schools had a responsibility not to contribute to bad habits." Although their argument is valid, I don't like the idea of someone telling me what I or my children can/should eat. Instead of removing all of the junk food, I think offering more variety and including healthy snacks would be better. Let people make their own choices. Educate students rather than try to control them. It's not that I have strong objections to getting rid of the chips and other junk food snacks...but getting rid of candy bars (chocolate!)...what are they thinking!?! Permalink ( 12:03 AM ) MB How to Build a Time Machine. Okay, maybe not what you might pick for the next science fair project, but it is an interesting article from Scientific American. Permalink Sunday, August 25, 2002 ( 9:22 PM ) MB Congratulations Valley Sports, Little League World Series Champions from Louisville, KY. I don't usually watch sports on TV and I only caught the end of this game. What I did see was two teams of kids who played with more enthusiasm and showed more class than I've seen in many major league games. It was an exciting game. I've heard talk that once upon a time major league ball used to be like that...now you just wonder if the major league players have their mind on the game or on what they plan to do when they go on strike. Anyway, good job kids, and thanks for showing us what the game of baseball is supposed to be like. Permalink |
