Sometimes before day or weekend trips the kids will make matching (kind of) t-shirts. We have done tie-dye, sponge painting, and the one I'm going to write about now...I don't really know what to call it....

You will need:
One dark or bright colored t-shirt per person
contact paper
bleach in a spray bottle
old newspaper
plastic grocery bags
water

Cut designs out of the contact paper. For our trip to an aquarium, we cut out fish shapes. Stick the contact paper shapes onto the front of the shirt.

Fold the newspaper in half or quarters and place in a plastic grocery bag. Put this inside the shirt to protect the back of it.

The next steps are best done outside. Place the t-shirt on a flat surface. Spray lightly with bleach (you may want to wear rubber gloves). Wait about 1 minute until you see the color start to change. Rinse well with water (I used the hose, but a bucket of water would work too). This will stop the bleaching and keep the bleach from eating through the fabric. Remove the bag of newpaper and peel off the contact paper.

Run the shirts through the laundry (washer and dryer) before wearing. Empty and rinse out the spray bottle or label it so that you know it contains bleach.

Be creative and have fun!

When it's too hot to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, try making Easy Black Bottom Pie for dessert:
1 crumb pie shell (I prefer shortbread crust, but you can use graham cracker or chocolate cookie crust.)
1 pkg. brownie mix (size to make 8" x 8" pan of brownies.)
1 pkg. (4 serving size) instant vanilla pudding
Ingredients required by brownie mix and pudding mix.
Make brownie mix according to direction on package except pour the batter into the crumb pie shell. Bake as per instructions on package.

When brownie pie bottom is done, remove from oven and let cool.

Mix pudding mix according to directions (use pudding for pie directions). When the pudding begins to thicken, pour over brownies. Refrigerate until pudding sets.

I just spent some time updating my events page in my Louisville site. I've also been adding more recipes and links in my cooking site. I have started a separate section with recipes for kids to make and have added some more links to media cooking sites (TV shows, radio shows, and newspaper food columns). I also added a search to the index page of Mom's Kitchen to make searching for recipes/ingredients easier.

It's 90 degrees outside here...looks like it's time for a visit to the pool!

I was looking at calendars of events for information to list on my Louisville site. I found this (which I'm not listing there):
"Sex Addicts Anonymous: Attend an Open Meeting Every Friday 12-1pm, 2520 Bardstown Road. Call 266-0757 for more info."
Not to make light of anyone's addiction, but does this really sound like the type of problem that could be helped by meeting anonymously with other people???

I read Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood while I was on vacation. Not long after we got home I got an email telling me about this site where you can find your Ya-Ya name. I am Princess Singing Creek.

I was looking at recipe sites yesterday. I'm adding links from my site to the ones that I like the best. This one isn't getting added there, but I just had to put it here. It must be every child's nightmare, recipes for school food. Not only can you make the types of meals served at school, you can make lots of whatever it is. The recipes I looked at made from 50 to 100 servings. So now when the little darlings tell you how much they miss school lunches (as if that will ever happen), you have a solution.

All I need to find now is a site that tells how to duplicate airline food.

As I mentioned the other day, we went to St. Pete Beach for vacation. This is where we stayed. If you look at the picture and, from the left side, count over 5, second row from the top, that is the room we had.

My husband and I had gone to St. Pete on our honeymoon. This was the first time we've been back since then. I had looked forward to revisiting a couple of restaurants that we had liked, but neither one was still there.

We are members of the Louisville Zoo and were able to use that membership to get into the zoo in Tampa. Here we walked through a free flight aviary and got to touch some (stingless) rays. The rays felt like canned mushrooms (only bigger) to me. We also got to see some manatees. They use the facilities at the zoo to rehabilitate injured ones and then release them back into the wild.

As I mentioned earlier we spent one day at Disney World's Magic Kingdom (my phone is still missing - shame, shame on whoever has it.) It was a very hot day but still lots of fun. The Buzz Lightyear ride was very popular with our kids. If you go, make sure to take advantage of the Fast Pass. With it you get your ride ticket in advance, go have lunch or try some attractions with shorter lines, come back to the ride and skip to the front of the line.

I also suggest getting a spray bottle with a fan if you're going on a day that's as hot as it was when we were there. They sell them at the theme park for $17 but unless you just have to have one with the Disney logo on it, you should be able to find one much cheaper elsewhere.

Of all the rides and attractions, the thing that impressed our oldest son the most was the M&M store. They had dispensers with single colored M&Ms so you could create your own blend. Okay, I was impressed too...red, black, and white would be a great mix to snack on while watching U of L games. Our daughter could go with her favorite color, pink...with maybe a bit of purple or aqua thrown in. Thank goodness for the Internet because now you can buy them the same way online.

The weather was nice but hot while we were there. After we got home, we took the kids to the pool and they complained about it being too cold. The water was pretty chilly, but these are the same kids that wanted to go swimming this spring as soon as the temperature outside was in the mid-60s.

We just got back from a vacation to St. Pete Beach, FL. The weather was great. The kids loved the beach. The only bad part was during a trip to Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. My phone went missing and still hasn't been turned in to the lost and found.

I'll write more about the trip later. Now I'm just tired and a bit sunburned.

From another email:
If you have a lot of tension and you get a headache, do what it says on the aspirin bottle: "Take two Aspirin" and "Keep away from children."

After a week's vacation with the kids, I'm taking this advice.
